Let me introduce you...

In case you hadn't noticed, up until today, my hedgehog had remained nameless in my blog posts. It has taken me quiet awhile to decide on a name for him. But today, I would like to introduce you to...

Reginald! Or just Reggie for short. What do you think?

P.S. I'm going to be giving him his first bath tonight. More pictures to come.

Home, Sweet Home!

A lot has happened since I last wrote. On Friday, my baby Hedgie came home!

My boyfriend Adam and I drove to the breeder's house in Maple to pick him up. It was so exciting. Even though I had seen pictures of the litter, I wasn't 100% sure what my baby Hedgie would look like. The breeder brought out a box with a little ball of quills inside. My Hedgie! Not at all what I had expected. Yes, he was definitely cute. But I was surprised how adventurous he was right from the start. He didn't even ball up when she handed him to me. He was a little shy, and his quills were sticking up a bit, but he really wanted to sniff around and get to know me.

After a quick chat with the breeder we made our way home. When we arrived my whole family was home and excited to meet the new edition. Hedgie was a bit scared by the rediculous sounds my dog was making so I took him right to my room were I could close the door.

One by one my family members drifted in and out of my room. They each wanted a turn to play with him. My mom was first. Unfortunately she had the smell of dog on her hands so baby Hedgie bit her pretty hard. But then he settled down and wasn't as scared. Next was my Dad. He got a special treat. Hedgie pooped in his hands. So we put him in his cage to see if he'd use the litter box. Which he did. I was shocked! He came fully trained.

Then Adam and I decided to cuddle up and watch some old episodes of friends and baby Hedgie cuddled with us.

Here are some pictures of him in his new home!

A Cage will do you good!

So on the weekend, my boyfriend Adam and I made a trip to PetsMart. So much fun! We were on the hunt for the perfect cage. We also needed to get something for my Hedgie to hide in as well as a wheel.

Well we found the perfect cage. And it is massive. It's 40" long! But in the wild, hedgehogs travel around a lot, so we needed a cage big enough for him to roam around. We also got a chewable tube for him to hide in and a chewable ball with a bell inside. We couldn't find a wheel the right size for Hedgie. They only had metal mesh wheels in the larger sizes and Hedgie's tiny feet could slip through the gaps and he could easily get hurt.

I had to do a major clean-up of my room in order to set up the cage. My room was kind of cramped as it is... finding room for a 40" cage was difficult. I had to move stuff around and switch out some furniture but I managed to find enough room for the cage.

Now that everything is set up and tidy, I can't wait til friday when my baby Hedgie comes home!

Here are some more pictures of him and his brothers.
